Motherless Children played in VESTAPOL tuning with Blind Willie Johnson version in mind. This Johnson JM-999 tricone resonator is now a pleasure to slide but I’ve had to spend some time tweaking it in order to set it up as I liked, when I bought it used it was rattling everywhere. At the moment it’s still fitted with the original cones but I’m waiting to get a trio of National originals, hoping to improve the sound a bit, even if in present conditions it’s loud enough to easily cover my voice. And that’s not a bad thing, uh? MOTHERLESS CHILDREN Motherless children have a hard time When their mother is gone. Motherless children have a hard time When their mother is gone. Motherless children have such a hard time. There’s all that weepin’ and all that cryin’. Motherless children, they have such a hard time When their mother is gone. Father will do the best he can When the mother is gone. Father will do the best he can When the mother is gone. Father will do the best he can, But there’s so many things he just don’t understand. Motherless children, they have such a hard time When their mother is gone. People say a sister will do When your mother is gone. People say a sister will do When your mother is gone. People say a sister will do, But she’ll get married and turn her back on you. Motherless children, they have such a hard time When their mother is gone. You may find comfort in your husband or your wife When your mother is gone. You may find comfort in your husband or …
