Blues gos way back to before Slavery times ,,,It was a tribal style of music .
Then When the white man started to Use Blacks as Slaves they were introduced to the Guitar and played it to their tribal drum beat ,,

,What was interesting was that they used the Trimadic scale/ Note ,,,, ( blue note /minor pentatonic scale ,,,,,) Which Christians believed to be an evil Note/ scale that if used the devil him self would appear

    JAZZ HISTORY

W.C Handy invented Jazz ,,,,He mixed Blues and a Gospel style of music

The reason W.C Handy Mixed these musical styles together is because wanted to please his father who was a Baptist minster

PBS television has done both types of music. Ken Burns did a series on jazz. Martin Scorsese produced one on The Blues. Both are on DVD and are very informative. Also you may try out Allmusic.com a good web site that lets you do searches.
