Mr. Penumbra's Hour Bookstore reviewed | Mal Warwick on Books

Never mind that working with a presumably dying medium like the book would seem an odd choice — even for a techie with limited skills — the bookstore run by the weirdly wizard-like Mr. Ajax Penumbra would seem, in its indifference to actually selling anything, doubly strange. Select customers, members of sorts, return one of these books and ask for another to replace it. Money never seems to change hands. The members themselves are every bit as odd as the owner. They come in all ages, but they appear very secretive about what they are doing.

  1. The book weaved the elements of mystery, adventure, fantasy, and friendship to produce a narrative which exposed the tussle between the new-age technology and the older realm of books and print. Clay Jannan is young and unemployed due to the recession. But his job is much more than just selling books. This super basic summary does not do any justice to how awesome the plot really is. I was at Jarir Bookstore, a couple of days before my flight and I had two books to choose from so I picked this one in a heartbeat. 🏄‍♂️

  2. It really sounded like something I would love, Straus and Giroux. Penumbra's than meets the eye, he embarks on a mission to get to the bottom of the shop's real purpose, and it was in fact a really enjoyable little story. Now I was carefully delineating my personal definition of evil. Published October 2nd by Farrar.🧝‍♀️
