Zeolites are microporous , aluminosilicate minerals commonly used as commercial adsorbents and catalysts. Zeolites occur naturally but are also produced industrially on a large scale. These positive ions are rather loosely held and can readily be exchanged for others in a contact solution. Some of the more common mineral zeolites are analcime , chabazite , clinoptilolite , heulandite , natrolite , phillipsite , and stilbite. These cation exchanged zeolites possess different acidity and catalyse several acid catalysis. Natural zeolites form where volcanic rocks and ash layers react with alkaline groundwater.

Zeolites are porous minerals with high absorbency and ion-exchange capacity. Even though there are several synthetic or natural occurring species of zeolites, the most widespread and studied is the naturally occurring zeolite clinoptilolite ZC. ZC is an excellent detoxifying, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Moreover, the modification as micronization of ZC M-ZC or tribomechanically activated zeolite clinoptilolite TMAZ or furthermore as double tribomechanically activated zeolite clinoptilolite PMA-ZC allows improving its benefits in preclinical and clinical models. Despite its extensive use, many underlying action mechanisms of ZC in its natural or modified forms are still unclear, especially in humans. The main aim of this review is to shed light on the geochemical aspects and therapeutic potentials of ZC with a vision of endorsing further preclinical and clinical research on zeolites, in specific on the ZC and its modified forms as a potential agent for promoting human brain health and overall well-being. Zeolites represent a family of hundreds of microporous mineral members known for their ion-exchange properties [ 1 ].

Brain Effects of Zeolite Clinoptilolite Given the existence of the gut-brain interconnection, it zeolifes been hypothesized that an indirect action of ZC exists at the level of the central nervous system. Chapter 47-Regulation of gastric acid secretion. Both of these zeolites exhibit contrasting morphologies likely due to their different origin. This could be partly due to that fact that the XRD patterns handbok the natural zeolites Fig. Cannabinoids in health and disease: Pharmacological potential in metabolic syndrome and neuroinflammation.

Two different natural zeolites from Cuba and Mexico, which are already being used as contemporaneous drugs or dietary supplements in Germany and Mexico, respectively, are applied in a comparative study of their histamine-binding capacities as a function of their particle sizes. Both zeolites are apparently free from fibrous materials according to SEM. Both zeolites adsorb significant amount of histamine under the experimental conditions. Nevertheless, the results showed that the histamine-binding capacity of the Cuban zeolite is higher than the Mexican one and the smaller the particle size of zeolite, the higher the histamine-binding capacity. This difference could be due to the variation in their mineralogical compositions resulting in varied BET surface areas. Thus, the high histamine-binding capacities of Cuban zeolites seem to be due at least partly to the presence of the large-pore zeolite mordenite, providing high total pore volumes, which will be discussed in detail.

Received Mar 19; Accepted Apr A critical reconsideration of biomedical and veterinary applications ofnatural zeolites. According to the United States Zsolites Surveyit is likely that a significant percentage of the material sold as zeolites in some countries is ground or sawn volcanic tuff that contains only a small amount of zeolites. Data of the investigations of optimal dosage as a function of the residual turbidity are show in the Table 3.

Due to various side effects of chronic PPI treatment, there is a tendency to look for alternative therapeutic modalities Fass Many more such structures could theoretically be made. Detoxifying Effects Most of the clinical positive effects of ZC and modified ZC have been attributed to its reversible zellites exchange and adsorption capacity.
