My kids both loved this book and have each read it numerous times. The books mix English with Spanish and include a Spanish to English glossary in the back? Bunny Brown the brains and Jack Jones the snoop make a fun pair of detectives.

You may just find yourself pulling them off the shelf to read even when no children are around I know I do. Save them for 1sr graders and up. The books are beautifully written, and black-and-white illustrations support comprehension. This series feels a little forced and boring.

They are always a bit shy when they ask for the first time, always a bit nervous to try something different than a picture book or a thin book with large, simple text, but the looks on their faces when I pair them with what I hope is a perfect story are simply priceless. The leap from beginning readers to easy chapter books is amazing, but challenging! After all, building reading skills is a key component of the first grade curriculum.

Science is now my daughter's very favorite subject and she adores Zoey so much she dressed like her for book character day at school.

They were probably my first chapter books, but the books are harmless and not too bad. I admit that a series all about mermaids is a bit hard for me to stomach, and I remember checking them out over and over again from the library, by Cynthia Rylant guided reading level: J. Henry and Mudge series.🧡

  2. At least 12 books in the series! Captain Awesome series, stopping to peruse the pictures. Currently 19 books in the series. It takes about 30 minutes for me to read through the story out loud, by Stan Kirby guided reading gdade M.

  3. Finding the right chapter books, especially for young first graders, can be challenging! There are so many more choices out there which can make it tough to determine which series are really worthy of sharing with your students. These chapter book series are great for reading aloud with your little ones or assigning for silent or take-home reading. 🥳
